Some of my favorite prom flowers this spring. Lots of great colors, styles, and designs. I can hardly wait for the winter balls to start. I wonder what will be the popular color this year? Will keep you posted in the coming months.

Proms & Weddings

Spring is in the air & it was evident by our beautiful California weather on Sunday. Spring is all about proms, weddings, & graduation.. I love this time of year. Flowers are plentiful with many varieties readily available. Lots of great products for wedding work. Something I love to do and specialize in.

And at this time of year junior and senior balls are happening just about every weekend, form until t early June. High School couples usually order a wristlets, boutonnière, & some even order garters. We usually match ribbons to dress color which compliments all 3 items very well. Personalization ribbon is also popular. There is a basic style I usually follow, but for some reason, each wristlet and garter becomes unique and different from each other. Everyone, including myself , wants to be different, and not the same. So far the popular color this year is Royal blue. At the end of the season. I will let you know the popular colors.

Although weddings happen every day, Spring and Summer comes in first, with Fall coming in a close 2nd. Wedding work can be stressful if you are not organized but it's the most rewarding job I love to do. Wedding coordinating is also part of the business that is enjoyable. You get to interact with so many people from so many different places. I've learned alot about so many people in this business. I wouldn't trade one moment of it.

Holiday of Love!

This week finds us on the heels of love. Valentines day is Sunday, February 14. We love to show the ones we love just how much we care. Whether it's your wife, husband, girlfriend, mother, or significant other, a gift of flowers and sweets goes a long way.

Now some may say that we don't need a special day to show that person how much we love them, but we do get busy in our lives as time passes by. We believe that everything will remain the same and that tomorrow you'll get her flowers, but we forget. So Valentines is a perfect time to stop putting it off. Flowers have different meanings, although I don't think many follow this. Here are a few for pure enjoyment.

Dark Red- Strong true love, symbolizing beauty and perfection.

It's a New Year!!

Happy New Year to all my family, friends, and customers.

December proved to be a very busy month for me and I didn't spend much time on my blogging. But starting now I will keep all of you current on what is happening at Sophia's Flowers & Event Planning.

I recently worked on a casket piece for a dear friend of mine that passed away. She was a simple woman who was 90 years young. Her family wanted flowers that reflected that. I designed the casket spray with on 14 Roses. 11 white and 3 red. There was meaning to the colors and count of flowers but I never knew why, only the family did. I also designed a small 20inch cross with a mix of flowers. Very lovely.

In that same week, I coordinated a wedding at All Saints Church. It really turned out to be a beautiful winter wedding. The colors were eggplant and silver. The flowers were gorgeous and I know I will be getting calls on this lovely bouquet. One thing I thought was really nice were the short jackets the bride and bridesmaids wore at the church. They went so well with the gowns. In all the years I've worked weddings, especially winter ones, I've never seen girls have a jacket to compliment the wedding attire. I think it's a great idea for warmth and it looks good at the same time.

A busy time of year

This time of year we are so busy, shopping, decorating, baking holiday cookies. The time slips away ever so fast. Let us not forget about the people that are most important to us in our lives.
